Nevada Energy Code
As mandated by Senate Bills 73 and 358, both passed on May 22, 2009, Nevada began the process of updating its energy code to comply with the latest IECC code. Nevada's Energy Code now references the 2006 IECC and ASHRAE 90.1-2004. The residential code has a few minor amendments, which mandate more detail regarding air barrier definitions and modeling assumptions and site energy moved to source energy. The commercial code has been amended for Southern Nevada to include lighting power density changes which better reflect casino and resort buildings. REScheck and COMcheck can be used to show compliance.
The Nevada State Office of Energy (NSOE) anticipates the beginning of regulation hearings on the state’s rulemaking process to adopt the 2009 IECC (as required under NRS 701.220) in September. Three regulation hearings are scheduled for this autumn around the state.
REEEA anticipates having the new regulations finalized and adopted by December 30, 2011, and will be proposing an effective date of July 1, 2012.
The City of Las Vegas has already adopted the Southern Nevada Building Officials (SNBO) 2009 IECC Amendments for Southern Nevada effective July 5.
