Residential Code: The Texas Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) for single-family construction is based on Chapter 11 of the 2009 IRC.

Explanation: Texas SECO

Application: Mandatory statewide for all new and renovated one- and two-family homes of three stories or less above grade. Cities can continue to adopt local amendments provided that ESL first reviews the amendments and determines that local rule is either as strict or stricter than existing state codes.

Approximate Stringency: As stringent as the Chapter 11 of the 2009 IRC, but not as stringent as the 2009 IECC.

Effective Date: January 1, 2012
