Energy Codes in Illinois are changing!

The International Code Council and ASHRAE have updated their energy codes and standards. Learn about the new Illinois Energy Conservation Code before it goes into effect. Are you ready?

New! 2012 Energy Code TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

The Illinois Energy Office's schedule for a 2012 IECC training series directed at the Illinois construction industry is now available. Homebuilders, designers, code officials, realtors, and home performance professionals will be able to learn about the newest energy conservation codes for new construction, additions and renovation projects in Illinois.

Sessions will be offered to Illinois Investor Owned Utility customers at no cost for a limited time through a partnership with the Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN), a collaborative of all 39 Illinois community college districts and 48 campuses working with businesses and communities across the state to grow Illinois’ green economy.

For Illinois, the impending statewide adoption of the 2012 IECC forecast for June of 2012 will require more insulation, a tighter envelope, mechanical ventilation of homes, greater combustion safety, and more efficient lighting compared to the 2009 IECC. This timely session covers on-the-job applications of the IECC and critical concepts for code officials, design professionals, homebuilders and remodeling specialists preparing their businesses for the 2012 IECC platform. Topics presented will form the basis for correct use of the code in design, inspection, and analysis of HERS, REScheck™ and COMcheck™ software submittals.

Topics Include:
 • Interplay between the 2012 IECC adoption, the ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Standard, the International Green Construction Code (IGCC), state and local law.
 • Correct use of the IECC and Standard 90.1 in the design, plan review, field-inspection, and analysis of projects.
 • Exposure to the 2012 International Green Construction Code (IgCC®) to build understanding of the intent of the IGCC code for compliance decisions in sustainable construction.

After attending this program, attendees will:
 • Understand how key 2012 IECC requirements and applicable provisions of ASHRAE 90.1-2010 affect their work.
 • Expand their capacity to apply the IECC to clear‐cut and not so clear-cut situations in the field.
 • Explain the use/ application of blower door and duct blaster as building diagnostic and code verification tools.
 • Identify the correct use of the code in the analysis of home performance software.

Presenters:
 • Darren Meyers, PE, CEM, BPI-BA with International Energy Conservation Consultants, LLC
 • Brian Kumer, BPI Affiliate Trainer/Master Field Proctor with Thermal Imaging Services, Inc.
