Utah Commission Approves 2009 IECC Residential Code; Hearing Sept. 8

On August 11, the Utah Uniform Building Code Commission voted 5-2 to adopt the 2009 IECC for new homes and major residential renovations. The vote also included an amendment that will provide greater flexibility in complying with the 2009 IECC while also requiring homes to be at least 12% more efficient than the same home built to the current residential code (2006 IECC). The Uniform Building Code Commission will hold a public hearing on September 8 to take public comments.

The state had previously updated its commercial code to the 2009 IECC after the passage of the State Construction Code Adoption Act, effective July 1, 2010.

Ken Baker of K Energy will be offering a series of residential, commercial, and plan review training sessions throughout the state from August 17 to October 6.
