Indiana Commission to Review Impact of Commercial Code on Existing Buildings Nov. 9
The Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission will hold a meeting November 9 to discuss certain commercial provisions of the Indiana Energy Conservation Code (based on ASHRAE 90.1-2007 with Indiana amendments) effective since May 6, 2010. At the request of the mayor of Fort Wayne, the meeting will cover four issues that have been subject to comments and questions from the building community:
- Whether to exempt all existing buildings from compliance with the Energy Code regardless of any alterations, additions or changes of occupancy that may affect these existing buildings;
- Whether to exempt all buildings built before 1978 from compliance with the Energy Code regardless of any alterations, additions or changes of occupancy that may affect these existing buildings;
- Whether an existing building that undergoes a change of occupancy is required to be brought into compliance with the current energy code for the entire building; and
- What the Energy Code compliance requirements are required for a "rehabilitation" project.
