Utah Commission Approves 2009 IECC Residential Code; Legislative Hearing Sept. 15

On September 8, the Utah Uniform Building Code Commission voted unanimously to recommend the adoption of a modified version of the 2009 IECC for new homes and major residential renovations. The proposed Utah code would allow homes using the performance path to show compliance by demonstrating 12% energy savings beyond the 2006 IECC.

The Utah Legislature authorizes final approval of the new code, which could occur as soon as a hearing of the Utah Senate Business and Labor Interim Committee on September 15. The intended effective date would be January 1, 2012.

The state had previously updated its commercial code to the 2009 IECC after the passage of the State Construction Code Adoption Act, effective July 1, 2010.

Ken Baker of K Energy will be offering a series of residential, commercial, and plan review training sessions throughout the state from August 17 to October 6.
