Texas to Adopt New Codes to Cut Energy Use

Homes and other buildings account for roughly 40 percent of the state’s overall energy use in Texas. Though big cities such as Houston and Austin tend to jump out ahead of the statewide building codes, the state's building codes have often lagged nationally. However, Texas is adopting new energy codes to change that in January. The new building code should cut the energy consumption of new single-family homes by more than 15 percent.
