Newton Mayor Setti Warren will attend a ceremony this afternoon in Maynard recognizing the Garden City as the first municipality in the state to adopt an energy-efficient building code.

Two years after Newton took on the role as the first municipality to adopt the state's energy efficient building "Stretch Code," the Commonwealth is recognizing the 100th community to join that initiative.

Earlier this afternoon, the state recognized the town of Maynard as the 100th municipality to adopt the green Stretch Code, which adds requirements for energy efficiency in new buildings.
