Cool Roof Legislation Adds Jobs, Saves Energy

On September 19, 2011, co-sponsors U.S. Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland and Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho introduced the Energy-Efficient Cool Roof Jobs ActThe proposed legislation offers incentives that encourage the adoption of energy-efficient, cool roofs. The bill allows commercial roofs that meet certain energy efficiency standards and that are placed into service over the next two years to be depreciated over 20 years.

The passage of this bill could potentially create over 40,000 construction jobs, helping to offset the jobs that were lost in the field as consequence of the economic downturn.

The bill has the support of a variety of groups, including the National Roofing Contractors Association, Alliance to Save Energy, American Council for Energy-Efficient Economy and the U.S. Green Building Council, among others

What would be the best way to

What would be the best way to find contractors who know about this proposed legislation? I'm researching different Minneapolis remodeling/roofing contractors in hopes of hiring some to put on a new roof this Spring. Would this legislation pass by then, and would it be too much to expect for most contractors to be able to follow the standards?

Rereading this, I'm wondering, does this even apply to residential homes?

Only commercial

Hi derrick8, I think it's only commercial, unfortunately. But check with the Minnesota Dept. of Commerce to see if there are incentives available for you.
