Energy Code: Update is Long Overdue

The Utah Legislature is being challenged by the state's homeowners who cannot see any good reason why Utah should be and has been behind the times in adopting a more recent energy code. 
Although it has been already three years since the 2009 IECC became effective, Utah's residential buildings are still regulated by the 2006 IECC. In response, Rep. Fred Cox, R-West Valley City, is proposing in HB262 that the state adopt the 2009 International Building Code. Polls show that, overwhelmingly, Utahns want and are willing to pay for more energy-efficient homes. Utah should have made the change years ago. Further delay cannot be justified.
