Energy Code Champion - Emily Nunez
BCAP is proud to announce Emily Nunez as this quarter’s Energy Code Champion.
Emily is responsible for overseeing the building energy codes policy for Nevada. She has 19 years experience with the State of Nevada and served as operations deputy for former Governor Jim Gibbons prior to taking over her new role at the Nevada State Office of Energy (NSOE).
In 2010, she oversaw the publication of two energy code gap analysis reports for Nevada. Following the completion of the reports, Emily managed the funding for a project that delivered a five-year strategic plan for energy codes in the state, seven energy code ambassadors, numerous code trainings and educational seminars in Northern and Southern Nevada. Emily also provided tools and equipment for local government building code officials to comply with energy codes, provided scholarships to the EduCode International conferences for code officials and the building industry, and she provided vouchers for code officials to take the International Code Council exams on energy codes to become ICC Certified.
During that time, Emily also led stakeholder groups and guided the state through the adoption of the 2009 IECC as the statewide minimum standard, which became effective in July 2012. Most recently, Emily has participated in and supported Nevada’s Energy Code Compliance Collaborative, which is currently working on a plan to demonstrate the requirements of the Recovery Act as they relate to energy codes.
Although Emily was recently promoted to Fiscal Manager for the NSOE, she will continue to oversee the building energy codes policy for Nevada. Her positive attitude, leadership, and commitment are influencing forward momentum on energy codes, and will produce legitimate energy savings for the state of Nevada.
