Florida: Raising the Bar for Code Adoption

In July of 2007 Governor Crist issued an executive order directing the Florida Building Commission to amend the Florida Energy Efficiency Code for Building Construction to increase energy efficiency requirements for residential and commercial build-ings by 15%. This increase in efficiency was imple-mented by the 2009 Supplement to the 2007 Florida Building Code, which took effect March 1, 2009. In 2008 he signed into law a schedule for increasing energy efficiency requirements of the Florida Build-ing Code, of which the energy code is a part, in 10% increments in each new edition of the code for a total of 50% by 2019.
